Located on the south coast of La Gomera island, in the Lomada de Tecina, this course has a peculiar design, as you have to climb up to the first tee and start a continuous descent to the 18th hole, where you will return again to the Club House. With amazing views over the Atlantic Ocean and the island of Tenerife, crowned by the majestic Teide volcano and added to a privileged climate, playing on this Donald Steel design is undoubtedly a unique experience.
Its wide fairways are surrounded by an exuberant sample of Canarian flora, such as cardones and tabaibas, as well as fruit trees such as bananas, avocados or mangas, which give a very peculiar and characteristic image to this course.
Tecina Golf has some differences between the front and back nines. The front nine holes run most of them parallel to the sea, with very wide fairways, few hazards and some vegetation between them, nothing significant. Except for two quite long par 4's, the rest of the holes should be good opportunities to lower our score if we do not make any big mistakes, especially the 9th hole, a very short par 4, and the two par 5's.
The back nine are more exciting in every way than the front. The fairways are more winding and more dangerous than the front nine. It begins with the spectacular 10th hole, perhaps the most emblematic of this golf course, and then you begin a slight zigzag to the 15th hole, surely the most interesting, complicated and fun section of the course, until we reach the 16th, 17th and 18th where we return to the same design structure of the front nine, with parallel and wide fairways with no hazards to worry about.
The greens are generally easy to read, they aren't to wavy but are quite fast and some are very large, so it's important not to be too far from the pin to avoid three putting. The wind in the area is usually gentle, which joined with the width fairways makes it relatively easy to achieve the greens in regulation, so the putt will be finally the key to get a good result.
In short, a relatively simple course, with really wide fairways, soft wind, a magnificent temperature all year round and superb views of the Atlantic Ocean and the island of Tenerife.
