Designed by the legend Severiano Ballesteros, Buenavista Golf Club is located in one of the most beautiful corners of Tenerife, in the northwest of the island, very close to Punta de Teno. The area has the title of Protected Natural Park and is famous for its mild and fresh climate all year round. Placed next to the Atlantic Ocean and surrounded by mountains, this magnificent environment makes it always a good idea to spend the day in this true natural jewel of the island.
The field at first glance may seem simple, as the fairways are quite wide and the trees around them, mostly palms, do not pose a great threat in principle. However, a characteristic of Buenavista Golf is the wind, which tends to blow moderately almost every month of the year, especially round midday, which makes reaching the fairway from the tee not such an easy task.
Another feature that makes Buenavista Golf Club quite attractive is its 6 par 5's, most of which, especially the 10th and 13th holes, are reachable in two strokes for medium hitting players. Also the 9th and the 18th can give us the option to putt for eagle, but in this case we must avoid a water hazard quite close to the green.
In addition to the lakes on holes 9 and 18, almost on all the holes we will find water hazard both in front and on the sides, with the greater the intensity of the wind, the greater their impact on the game. In the lower part of the course, at the end of the back nine, on holes 15, 16 and 17, the out of bounds will also be a determining factor that can ruin our round if we are not very precise from the tee.
The greens are generally wavy, so to get a chance to get in, you have to be quite close to the pin. Although the course doesn't have many bunkers, most greens have water hazards really close, so you have to be quite precise with the flag shots, and sometimes forget the pin position and protect yourself a little in case the wind blows too hard just looking for the center of the green. In summer greens are usually quite fast, so when putting downhill you will have to be very subtle to avoid three putting.
In short, a golf course located in a spectacular environment, comfortable to play because it doesn't have too much unevenness, and that apparently can be easy, but due to the wind and the many obstacles that surround most of the holes make it a challenge for our game, although thanks to the pars 5 if we have a successful day from the tee and putting, we can get a fairly low result.
