Very close to the spectacular Cliffs of Los Gigantes stands the youngest course on the island, Abama golf, designed by the prestigious Dave Thomas. On this fabulous course we can find more than 300 species of subtropical plants, including more than 20,000 palm trees. Almost every hole has spectacular views of the island of La Gomera and the Atlantic Ocean. The most characteristic feature of this golf course is its 22 lakes spread out along the 18 holes, as well as a multitude of white sand bunkers, which make the course a real challenge even for the most experienced players. The vegetation and the surroundings of the fairways are taken care of in detail, and the course is magnificently maintained.
The fairways are quite undulating and many holes have a great unevenness, which makes us often not be able to see the target well, which will make us have to take visual references to aim at the target, sometimes even if we are in the middle of the fairway. As we have already mentioned, the course has many water hazards and bunkers, so strategy and distance calculation is essential to avoid them.
The weather in the area is quite benevolent, and the sun shines almost all year long. The temperature is always over 20 degrees and the presence of the wind is symbolic, so at least that won't help to make an already complicated journey even more difficult.
If the fairways seem really complicated, the greens are already a separate issue. Get ready to experience a real roller coaster of slopes. These undulations mean that you have to be very precise on your shots to the pin to have any chance of putting in, and in many cases a long shot to the flag will be almost irremediably synonymous with three putts, so you have to be very patient and read the falls very well, and try to always be on the right side of the green so as not to inflate your scorecard.
In short, Abama Golf Course is a very complicated course, which requires a lot of analysis and strategy in all shots, with a beautiful environment and careful attention to detail, where it will be up to each player to decide whether or not it is worth paying the high cost of the green fee.
